Rustic

We love it when we get to design log cabins and chalets in the Swiss alps - the natural materials, warm lighting, live fires and rustic feel. It's what makes the Ardesia style! It's probably why we try to bring that cabin warmness to London by adding small rustic details to the modern interiors we design.

Kitchens

The modern kitchen is changing. Full-on, gloss white kitchens are slowly being phased out for a return back to something more casual and comfortable. Rustic is coming back but only as an accent - in essence, the new modern kitchen should feel warm and friendly with simple cabinets (matt colours are back) and a touch of nature, such as a wooden or stone countertop.

French Inspired

My favourite thing about French design and interiors is the way they make use of little rustic details and found objects. I also love the use of natural materials like linen and wood and the 'distressed' or 'aged' look that the French are so good at using in conjunction with modern interiors. An inspiration to us for sure.

The Simple Life

Modern interior design is really about simplifying our hectic modern lives. Regardless of your style or taste, the underlying theme in all good interior design is function - this means things need to work well, interact well with the user, provide plenty of storage space and make our busy lives easier. I love this set of images because they describe how I feel about interior design - the rustic charm of these interiors remains but is simplified by the modern fit-out.

Open Kitchen Shelving

Kitchen trends change once every few years - the recent trend has been singularly white gloss kitchens but this seems to be fading out in favour of 'modern rustic' kitchens, which is bringing the return of open kitchen shelving. It makes a great change from the minimal kitchens that have been so popular for a few years now and it's a great way to showcase your lovely plates!
